Captive is based on a powerful true story that changed the life of Ashley Smith (played by Kate Mara) forever. On March 12, 2005, Brian Nichols (played by David  Oyelowo), an escaped convict who already killed 4 people, held Ashley hostage in her own apartment for 7 hours. Ashley, a widowed mother who's a meth addict, lost custody of her daughter, Paige. When faced with the life & death situation as a captive, Ashley, by the grace of God, ironically broke free from her drug addiction that kept her captive for years. Unexpected miracles unfolded as hours ticked away. When she read The Purpose Driven Life out loud, God softened Brian's heart and made him think about his life's purpose.
