If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing." (John 15:5) It is our desire to always abide in JESUS CHRIST, our Lord and Savior, and to bear much fruit...hence "Fruitbearers."

Growing up with an alcoholic mother and having to be the one to raise her little brother put a huge strain in the relationship between Riley (played by Courtney Bandeko) and her mother, Karen (played by Krista Morin). A "good Christian girl" becomes an out-of-control partygoer who lives in meaningless pursuit of worldly pleasures, always looking for the next fix (a temporary bandage for her pain & misery) and teetering on the brink of nervous breakdown.

I'm glad that's not the end of Riley's story. God loves all the prodigal sons and daughters. God loves the broken and the messed-up. God's unstoppable love never gives up on them. Pastor's Kid is a compelling story of faith, redemption, forgiveness, and healing. It shows God's transformative power that can break any chains. No one is beyond God's saving grace! True, lasting hope and freedom can only be found in Christ alone. This film is rated R for drug & alcohol use throughout and profanity (f-words and God's Name used in vain). It's hard for me to watch at times, especially when God's Name is used in vain (I wish they would leave that out). I understand that they try to make it authentic showing the intense reality of growing up with an alcoholic and living in the destructive drug/party lifestyle. Excellent performance from the main cast and the supporting cast. Pastor's Kid will be in theaters on March 15th. It's a thought-provoking movie for you and your friends, for believers and non-believers to have discussions about afterwards.

“What do you think? I was so excited to review Ordinary Angels. It is based on the incredible true story (taken place in Louisville , KY, in 1993) of Sharon Stevens (Hilary Swank), a struggling alcoholic hairdresser who's determined to do all she could to save the life of a critically ill young girl who just lost her mother. Ed (Alan Ritchson), a widower, works tirelessly to make ends meet for his two daughters (8-year-old Ashely and 5-year-old Michelle), while desperately hoping for a liver transplant for Michelle who has a rare medical condition. God brings Sharon into Ed's life at such a crucial moment for both of them. The former (a single mom who's shunned by her only son) discovers a renewed purpose in life and the latter (a widowed dad whose faith is being tested) discovers that God uses caring people to help and carry one another's burdens. Sharon's compassion and tenacity are remarkable. Never underestimate what one person or one community can do to make a difference in someone's life...to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles...to become a miracle! "No one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions." (Margaret Thatcher) Ordinary Angels is an inspiring film that shows the power of putting God's love in action, which propels ordinary people into accomplishing extraordinary things.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I cried. Solid performances from Hilary Swank, Alan Ritchson, and Nancy Travis (she plays as Ed's mom). The two young girl actresses did a fantastic job. At the end of the film, you get to see the actual news footage. I highly recommend this wonderful, heart-warming film about faith, family, friendship, finding your purpose, and fighting for what truly matters. It is rated PG and contains themes of alcoholism (shown in a negative light). The statistics of young people around the world (not just in the US) struggling with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts is truly alarming. What Rhymes with Reason is an adventure-drama story of six teens (four male and two female) navigating through the wilderness and their own darkness in order to find a legendary landmark and hope. It tackles some tough topics such as fear, anger, grief, pressure (from parents, peers, social media, etc.), identity, self-worth, unrealistic expectation, life's purpose, life's burdens, and more. It is also a beautiful story of friendship, reminding us all that we need each other, and we are better together. "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ." (Galatians 6:2) We Christians are to love one another and carry one another's burdens.

I enjoyed the movie and wished it continued longer. The cast did a wonderful job and seemed to have good chemistry. I like movies with clues or riddles to solve. What Rhymes with Reason has the vibes of The Goonies and National Treasure. It is not just entertaining but also inspiring. It's cleverly crafted to remove the stigma around mental health and encourage teens and young adults to boldly and unashamedly talk about faith and their inner struggles. Darkness, doubts, and discouragement may be part of us, but they don't define us.

This movie is a great resource for parents, teachers, youth pastors, and those who work with teens. You should watch this movie with your teen if you have one. It will open up great conversation. The film partners with 988 Mental Health Lifeline which operates everyday 24/7. What Rhymes with Reason is rated PG-13 for thematic material involving mental health and brief violence. The author ingeniously presents the narrative about Mitsuo Fuchida (an overambitious Japanese pilot who led the Pearl Harbor attack and hated America, driven by revenge), Jake DeShazer (an American bombardier and a prisoner of war, who's determined on retaliation against Japan after the Pearl Harbor attack), and Peggy Covell (a college student and the eldest daughter of an American missionary family who spent time in Japan and the Philippines). The story unfolds before, during, and after Japan's surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The author, T. Martin Bennett, spent 18 years conducting extensive research to ensure the historical accuracy of the events, people, and stories. The book is a thick book that includes over 300 black and white photos of people, places, planes, original telegrams, letters, maps, documents, and more. I enjoyed this moving, captivating, & inspiring read. It's well written, full of detailed description (of aircrafts, weaponries, etc.) and humor (yes, I laughed out loud several times). I appreciated the different perspectives from both sides of the war. While reading the book, I was thinking of the game, Risk. It's sad that even now some nations still fight against other nations just because "they felt that whatever they had the power to take, they had the right to take." (p. 120)

I highly recommend this remarkable book. It covers pride (national and racial), prejudice, racism, revenge, battles, survival, tragedy, bravery, agape love, compassion, kindness, hope, faith, and forgiveness. Who could have turned such an ugly story of hatred and destruction into a beautiful story of redemption and transformation and turned enemies into brothers? Only God could have done that. "Wounded Tiger" is an amazing, compelling true testimony of God's love, grace, and power. Christmas is fast approaching. It's the latest film from Angel Studios (that made The Chosen and Sound of Freedom), releasing in theaters starting tomorrow, December 1st. In an alternate dimension/reality (think "multiverse"), Kevin Garner (Kristoffer Polaha) encounters "The Benefactor" (Neal McDonough). Kevin smells lies and deception from this mysterious, nefarious adversary right away; he refuses to work for/with him and his offer of wealth and power. Faced with infinite worlds and endless possibilities, Kevin fights to find a way out in order to be reunited with the woman he loves, Molly (Elizabeth Tabish).

Personally, I am not a fan of sci-fi, multiverse movies, but I enjoyed The Shift. I like the message within the movie that touches on Christ's resurrection, eternal hope, test of faith, God's truths vs. Satan's lies, light vs. darkness, life and death, agape (selfless & self-sacrificial love), and dilemma. Our life's choices affect others. It is a thought-provoking movie that reminds us of the real & present Enemy who seeks to destroy & devour God's children. He is a liar, deceiver, tempter, and chaos maker. The Shift features fantastic cast including Sean Astin (The Goonies, Rudy, The Lord of the Rings), Neal McDonough (Band of Brothers, Minority Report), and Elizabeth Tabish (The Chosen). I have never read the book (same title) by Carolyn Weber, which is a memoir of an intellectual unbeliever who became a Christian. I did not know what to expect but I was surprised by Surprised by Oxford in a good way. Caro Drake (played by Rose Reid), a brilliant and driven American student, receives a full-ride scholarship to study for her PhD degree on Romantic Literature at Oxford University in England. Culture shock, a charming & chaste young man (played by Ruairi O'Connor), and Christianity surprise her and intrigue her at the same time. As an agnostic, she grapples with many questions about God and spiritual matters. As a feminist from a broken family, she struggles with being vulnerable and maintaining a relationship with a chivalrous man. Caro is introduced to C.S. Lewis's memoir about his conversion to Christianity, Surprised by Joy, and is greatly impacted by it. She sincerely searches for truth and deeper meaning of life. The film chronicles her philosophical approach to faith.

Outstanding cinematography. We get to see some splendid architectures, British college culture and traditions, and gorgeous landscapes. Fantastic performance from the cast. I love Phyllis Logan (Mrs. Hughes from Downton Abbey); she plays Provost Regina Knight who has a positive influence on Caro. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie (except the beginning part where Caro frequently uses God's Name in vain). Surprised by Oxford is a beautiful, meaningful, and thought-provoking film about faith, love, truth, and eternal significance. The movie made me want to read both books: Surprised by Oxford and Surprised by Joy. The film is a little vague about her journey to the Christian faith; the emphasis is more on her relationship with her boyfriend whom she later married. Surprised by Oxford was released in theaters earlier this year and is now available to rent or buy during the month of November. The film's script writers take some creative license and fill in the unknowns such as how Mary and Joseph met and how they felt, the names and personalities of the three wise men, etc. They said they tried to remain true to the message of the greatest story ever told. While I enjoyed the movie and appreciated the quality of the film, I need to point out a few things that are definitely not Biblically accurate. First, the wise men came to the house, not the stable and presented gifts to the young Child, not the Baby (according to Matthew 2). Second, Herod the Great's son, Antipater, was not present at Christ's birth. Luke 2:8 says, "Now when Herod (Antipater) saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and he hoped to see some miracle done by Him." It is clear from this verse that Antipater had never met Jesus before. Third, Herod the Great sent out an order to put to death all the male children in the whole region from two years old and under after he realized he was deceived by the wise men (they did not return to him), not an order to hunt down a pregnant virgin (as shown in the film).

It's a very tough road (literally and figuratively) for Mary and Joseph to travel on for sure. The film shows their struggle with faith and their ultimate submission to God's plan for their lives. The songs are catchy. And of course, I always love classic Christmas carols. The choreography is excellent. The cinematography is gorgeous. The cast's performance is fantastic. I didn't know Joel Smallbone (For King And Country) and Lecrae could act :). The film is funny, family-friendly, faith-filled and joy-filled. It is about celebrating the Gift of Jesus given and sent by God to save the lost world. If you like musicals and look for an uplifting entertainment, check this movie out. It is now playing in theaters starting today. You can buy tickets here. Although the movie is not totally Biblically accurate, you can use it as a springboard for a conversation with your children or with unbelievers and point them to God's Word.

The spiritual warfare is real; we Christian parents must be aware of the enemy's schemes & weapons but not anxious or afraid. We cannot afford choosing to be pacifists in this battle; we must be vigilant and fight for our child's soul with God's strength, full armor, and truths & principles. "It is our

Rules of Engagement, 2. Boot Camp, and 3. Battlefields. It covers various important topics such as identifying the purpose of Biblical parenting, setting the proper priorities, meeting children's 4 basic needs, protecting your family from outside pressures, instilling Biblical worldview, communication challenges, training tips, the purpose and strategies of discipline, sexuality, 9 lies about sex, and more. This book is helpful for parents of all ages and stages. I have 3 adult children and I still have gained practical wisdom and godly insights from this book. I particularly appreciate the fact that the authors include lots of Scriptures and original Hebrew and Greek words which help me dig deeper into God's Word. I had never heard about the issue of inner vows before so that was eye-opening to me. I love Chapter 5 where the authors point out the necessity of salvation and new birth in Christ for Christian parents. Fighting for the Soul of Your Child is a fantastic parenting book that is Christ-centered and gospel-saturated. It is a twisted tale of entrepreneurship during the Great Depression in US history. Doc Boyd (played by Kevin Sorbo) and Dad Everett (played by John Ratzenberger) charm their ways into the hearts of some lonely widows and get away with these easy targets' money. They shamelessly sweettalk about potential oil wells and despicably swindle the vulnerable in Oklahoma and then in Cornville, Texas. But God has other plans for their lives, and they encounter miracles beyond their wildest dreams. The movie made me think of the movie, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". You hate what the characters do but you can't help liking the characters because of some redeeming qualities. I find Miracle in East Texas light-hearted and entertaining. So good," said Mary Owen. I completely agree with her. God's goodness never ceases to amaze me. We are so undeserving, yet He is so loving, forgiving, and giving. My family and I first met the Owen family when our daughter took a speech/debate workshop with them in Newberg, Oregon. They are a lovely Christian family. We got to know Shelli, Bruce, Jessika, Mary, Ruth, and Elijah a little bit. We have never met Rachel (their other daughter). When we heard about Mary missing on Mount Hood, we prayed urgently for her to be found alive and for her family. When we heard that she was rescued, we were overjoyed and thanked God for this marvelous miracle. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I was curious to find out about all the details and backgrounds concerning this awesome story of God's merciful intervention, provision and protection.

During spring break in March 2013, Mary Owen (23 then), an avid hiker, determined to summit Mount Hood no matter what, failing to tell anyone her final plan. She fell, got injured, and entrapped on the snowy mountain for 6 days, surrounded by the sound of silence (including from God initially). The book includes Mary's account, her parents and siblings' perspectives, and contributions from some family members and friends. I laughed (Mary's dreams are hilarious) and I was teary-eyed. My favorite chapter is titled, "Awe and Gratitude." It unpacks all the wonderous works of God behind the scenes throughout the whole ordeal. Shelli is a gifted storyteller/writer; she effectively puts her daughter's personal trauma and family's heart-wrenching trial into words that express raw emotion, real struggle, and radiant appreciation for God's unfailing love, goodness, and faithfulness. I love the fact that she also includes the gospel message, pointing people to Jesus, our Ultimate Rescuer.

Mary learns her lessons and lives to tell others such a powerful testimony of God's amazing grace and mercy. Her unique experience with God on the mountain deepens her understanding of Christ's death and resurrection and makes her aware of the urgency to save perishing souls by sharing the good news of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. "I cannot do less than dedicate my life to inviting others to embrace this good and powerful Savior." (p. 146) God still wants her on this earth for His purpose and His glory. I am so glad and thankful that Mary recognizes God's purpose for her life to be used in His rescue mission to the lost. Currently, Mary and her husband with their four young children are serving the Lord as missionaries in Papua New Guinea.

I highly recommend this candid, riveting, and inspiring book to all. Mountain Rescue is a real-life, against-all-odds story that honors & magnifies God while reminding us of the value of life, wisdom, prudence, faith, prayer, surrender, hope, the Body of Christ, community service, and compass (a physical one and spiritually speaking, God's Word as our compass in life). As I was reading the book, I thought of the movie, "It's A Wonderful Life." Our decision and action do affect others; this is one of the lessons that Mary learned from her near-death experience. Each life is a precious gift from God. I hope this book will help readers examine their own lives and commit their lives to Jesus. Then and only then they will find the true meaning of life.

"God's peace somehow allows a person through spiritual (immaterial) means to be assured of His unseen, but very real Presence. Only His presence can give one's soul the true and comforting reassurance that all that isn't presently well with us now will be well in the end." (p.74)

"Returning to rest in God's will and absolute goodness again, opened our eyes to what He might be doing and calmed our spirits. His gentle, quiet Spirit was able to speak to our souls just what we needed when we needed it, to guide us, to assure us, to hold us, to comfort us, to teach us how and what to pray, to help keep us sane. In truth, there is no earthly comparison to heavenly Presence and help!" (p, 75)

LivingforGodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14307464636991455275noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4005868524349891185.post-12569181975160909932023-08-21T03:26:00.007-07:002023-08-21T16:59:52.648-07:00Movie Review: The Hill plus $10 Amazon Giftcard Giveaway

The Hill is an inspiring movie based on an incredible true-life story of Rickey Hill, a baseball phenomenon. His unlikely journey to play Major League Baseball is filled with health obstacles and opposition from his own father. As a young boy from a poor family in Texas who struggles with a degenerative spinal disease, Rickey loves playing baseball and does not let his leg braces stop him from pursuing his passion. God blesses Rickey with two special gifts: an extraordinary ability for hitting a baseball and an extraordinary ability to comprehend and memorize the Scriptures. Due to the desire to protect Rickey (played by Colin Ford) from injury, his father, Pastor James Hill (played by Dennis Quaid) discourages the former while encouraging the latter. However, Rickey never gives up his dream of playing professional baseball, in spite of having to overcome one challenge after another. He displays faith and determination that defy the odds, intending to live his life with no regrets.

The Hill (rated PG) is an enjoyable family film that I highly recommend to everyone, especially baseball fans. Tim saves the boy from traffickers, but his sister is still kept captive. Tim decides to risk his own life journeying deep into the Colombian jungle to free her. Sound of Freedom is such an important and impactful movie that aims to help raise awareness about the prevalence of human trafficking and propel people to fight against this evil. I cannot recommend it enough. Bring tissues. I have to warn you that certain scenes in the movie will be hard to watch even though they try to show its mature and sensitive subject matter in a tasteful and honorable way. This real-life story is truly heart-wrenching. Outstanding performance by the cast.

Human trafficking is the fastest growing crime worldwide. It is sickening, disgusting, and wicked. It needs to be exposed and extinguished. Did you know that there are more humans trapped in slavery today than any other time in history, including when slavery was legal? Millions are children. Jesus says in Matthew 18:6, "If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in Me--to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea."

Angel Studio's goal for Sound of Freedom is for 2 million people to go watch the film in theaters the week of July 4 to remember the 2 million children who are trafficked every year. #2MillionFor2Million You can find showtimes at https://www.angel.com/tickets/sound-of-freedom. I desire to know God more and more intimately. I don't want to miss out on anything God wants me to know. I always appreciate tools and resources that help me understand the Bible better. In addition, I've always wanted to visit Israel. Encounter the 3D Bible by Dr. Susan Michael is an easy but impactful read. It makes me more mindful of how the places, people, culture, and events in the Bible fit together so beautifully. This book is not a Bible study but a book that gives you tips on how to read the Bible in such a way that enhances your understanding and your appreciation of the Bible. The Bible will go from 2D to 3D and makes your Bible study richer and livelier. It whets your appetite for digging deeper into God's Word as digging for precious treasures.

The author gives guidelines to help us read the Bible in context (historical context, geographical context, cultural context, and literary context/genre). Without a proper understanding of the context, it is easier to miss the significance and richness of details within the Biblical stories or even misinterpret some passages. If you are curious about why God chose the Jewish people and Israel to be the center stage of His redemption plan on earth, you will gain Biblical insights from reading Encounter the 3D Bible. You (well, at least I) will also never read Matthew 25:32-40 the same way ever again :). The book demonstrates that the God of the Old Testament is the same God of the New Testament; He is loving, forgiving, just, merciful, faithful, and sovereign over all. His goodness and lovingkindness never change. God is eternally immutable (unchangeable).

The book includes some black and white photos and maps. It also includes Old Testament Timeline (Appendix A) and Recommended Resources (Appendix B). "If we want revivals, we must revive our reverence for the Word of God." (Charles Spurgeon) Encounter the 3D Bible will help readers read, study, and meditate on God's Word with awe, reverence, enthusiasm, and delight. I highly recommend this concise, insightful, and eye-opening book to everyone who desires to understand the Bible better and thus to know God better.

Acclaimed Bible teacher Kay Arthur (who wrote the foreword for this book) says Encounter the 3D Bible will "help any reader understand the Bible better and approach it from the proper perspective regardless of age, biblical background, or preconceived ideas."

GIVEAWAY: Click here to enter a giveaway for a chance to win a copy of this book and a copy of Every Generation's Story. <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;">#christianbooks #storyofthebible #booklaunch #christianbooks #oldtestament #newtestament #embassypublishers #christianbookworm #christianbookstagram #icejusa_1980 #newbookrelease #icej #readthebible

The colorful floral images in the background are pleasing to the eyes and make the words stand out. The 108-page Scripture Writing Journal complements the card set with the same affirmations and Scripture references plus space to write Scriptures, journal, reflection, and prayer. I encourage you to get into a habit of writing out Scripture. It really helps us remember better (hiding God's Word in our hearts) and focus our thoughts/mind on what God thinks of us, says about us, and how much He loves us. These wonderful truths will help us grow closer to God and remind ourselves Whose we are and Whom we serve. It follows the story of how the lives of Pastor Chuck Smith (played by Kelsey Grammer), Lonnie Frisbee (played by Jonathan Roumie), and Greg Laurie (played by Joel Courtney) converged and how God used them to impact the hippie culture. The wandering youth searched for truth in all the wrong places (drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, rock and roll, etc.) which failed to give life meaning and fulfillment. Only Jesus Christ can set the captives free and give us an eternal and abundant life.

Jesus Revolution is a wonderful story of faith, hope, agape love, forgiveness, and freedom. Chuck Smith, the founder of Calvary Chapel (more than 1,000 churches now), courageously welcomed those who looked and dressed differently in spite of criticism and opposition from others in his congregation. I love what Chuck Smith said to his congregation, “That’s the essence of it (Christianity): An invitation to the broken. Jesus was very friendly with the outcasts. … This place, it is yours. If you feel like you’re an outcast, join us here. If you feel like you’re misunderstood and judged, this is where you belong. If you feel ashamed or trapped in something you’ve done or are doing, you find forgiveness and freedom right here.” It made me think of the song, "My Jesus" by Todd Agnew (if you have never heard it, please check it out...it's powerful and convicting).

The cast did a fantastic job. Great music. I am pleased to see that the gospel message is clearly presented and includes "repent and believe". The movie also does not shy away from showing flaws and struggles even after people become Christians. We all need God and His grace continually.

Many of you may have seen this movie already. If not, I highly recommend it. Jesus Revolution is now available on digital and will be available on DVD starting 4/25. You can buy Jesus Revolution on digital or preorder the DVD today. It is rated PG-13 for strong drug content and some thematic elements.

GIVEAWAY: Please share in the comment one of the faith-based films that has impacted you. During his 3-day journey with Isaac and two servants to Moriah (where God told him to go), Abraham has flashbacks of the years when he and Sarah longed for the son God promised them. As a parent, I can really relate to Abraham's anguish and probably confusion, too. As a Christian, I really admire Abraham's faith and confidence in God and his unquestioning obedience. His complete trust in Yahweh Yireh ("The LORD Will Provide") is truly remarkable. He knows that God will provide what God requires. His Only Son effectively depicts Genesis 22 while beautifully weaving in the gospel message of God's grace, mercy, and redemption plan.

His Only Son (rated PG-13 for thematic content and some violence) is a perfect film for you to watch with your families and friends this Easter season. The story of Abraham and Isaac is a typology of God's sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus Christ 2,000 years later. Mount Moriah, where Abraham built an altar and laid Isaac on the altar, is believed to be Calvary where Christ was later crucified. I am impressed with this low budget (less than $250,000) film which managed to have a fantastic cast, great music, and outstanding cinematography. Abraham is brilliantly played by Nicolas Mouawad, an award-winning Lebanese film and TV star. Everyday God works through ordinary believers living an authentic everyday life of influence in everyday spheres of life. Whether you realize it or not, you are influencing others and being influenced by others. People shape people, for good or for bad. "Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm." (Proverbs 13:20) In Authentic Influencer, the author draws valuable lessons and 15 key principles from the exemplary life of Barnabas (in Acts) that Christ's followers can copy, adapt, customize, and embody, in order to be active, authentic, godly influencers for Jesus. Never underestimate the impact of an authentic influencer. Barnabas influenced Paul, John Mark, and Luke. Authentic influencers can and do produce world changers.

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) is God's command (not an option) for every believer. All Christ's followers are to go and make disciples. We are to be light and salt. In other words, we must be authentic godly influencers making an eternal impact in this world for God's glory and God's kingdom. This book aims to help readers do just that. Besides gleaning from the Scriptures, Jonathan Murphy uses personal experiences, real-life examples of some well-known and not so well-known heroes of the Christian faith and historical figures. I like reading about John Knox, William Carey, George Wishart, John Geddie, John Campbell, Charles Spurgeon, Winston Churchill, etc. Jonathan Murphy is a great storyteller with a great sense of humor.

The book consists of 8 chapters. At the end of each chapter, you will find "Some Food for Thought" (thought-provoking questions and challenges to turn vision into action). The author also talks about emotional intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, organizational intelligence, cross-cultural intelligence, truth intelligence, relational intelligence, and more. I enjoyed reading the book from beginning to end. I love the fact that the author is passionate about the Great Commission (my passion, too) and about empowering others to organically and authentically influence lives and culture for Christ. I highly recommend this book. It is an insightful and inspiring read, full of practical wisdom and Biblical truths. Everyone needs a Barnabas (a loyal & supportive encourager/mentor), and everyone needs to be a Barnabas (a caring & dedicated godly influencer). Check out this book and discover how to live out the Barnabas way of shaping lives for Jesus. Remember that God does use ordinary men and women who are faithful, available, willing, and obedient. Genuine godliness is captivating and contagious. It is based on the true story of Samuel and Julie Allen, who founded Dream Church in Florida in 1986. The film starts with a young Samuel in a strict Sunday School class and his father, Joe Allen, the church's pastor in Alabama in 1964, who does not always follow the church's man-made rules. After a teenage Samuel gets unjustly blamed for a tragedy, he walks away from Christianity, joins a secular rock-and roll band, and lives the prodigal son's wasteful lifestyle of worldly pleasures. When he hits rock bottom, God's grace is there to pick him up and turn his life around. Samuel becomes a pastor just like his father, but not without opposition and challenges. He is determined to follow his dream about telling others how they can find hope and forgiveness in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Southern Gospel contrasts God's immeasurable love and inexhaustible grace with legalism and hypocrisy. I was thrilled for an opportunity to review this movie. I Heard the Bells is a beautiful and inspiring film based on a true story behind the beloved Christmas carol and its author, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow who was a well-loved & well-respected American poet. The film covers a three-year period of Longfellow's life from 1860 to 1863. A tragedy shattered his peaceful and picturesque life and family in such a profound way. His unimaginable grief tested his faith in God and took away any motivation to write while he was immensely worried about his son, Charley, who signed up to fight in Civil War. But the sound of bells on Christmas morning reminded Longfellow of their hopeful voices and restored his poetic passion.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and cried pretty much through the second half of the movie. Gorgeous cinematography, authentic period costumes, outstanding performances from the cast, wholesome story of faith, family, hope, and redemption...you definitely don't want to miss your chance to experience this fantastic film on the big screen this Christmas season! I am very impressed with SIGHT & SOUND since this is their first feature film. I can't wait to see more God-honoring films from them in the future.

I Heard the Bells will be in theaters starting December 1st (tomorrow). Fifty-two devotions are organized into 12 parts. Some devotions are written by Levi; others are written by Jennie; and the rest are written by both of them. It is refreshing to get perspectives from both the husband and the wife, not just one side. Each devotion starts with a Bible verse and ends with a prayer. At the end of each devotion, you will also find some thought-provoking questions for reflection and discussion, or some conversation starters, or some ideas and action steps. There's a blank page for "love notes" at the beginning of each part.

The authors do not shy away from sensitive subjects such as submission, sex, finances, etc. I really appreciate their transparency, humility, and humor. I am also glad to see the gospel message clearly presented in the book. I highly recommend this God-centered, God-honoring devotional filled with Godly wisdom and insights. This book would make a meaningful wedding gift, anniversary gift, or Christmas gift for any couples in your life.

One quote that stood out to me is "The devil is like a shark who is always looking for prey. He knows that if you are a believer, he can't take you to hell; but if you let him, he can keep you from experiencing the joy of a healthy, thriving Christ-centered life and marriage."
