One of my favorite Christmas carols is " I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day " (sung by Casting Crowns). I was thrilled for an opportunity to review this movie. I Heard the Bells is a beautiful and inspiring film based on a true story behind the beloved Christmas carol and its author, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow who was a well-loved & well-respected American poet. The film covers a three-year period of Longfellow's life from 1860 to 1863. A tragedy shattered his peaceful and picturesque life and family in such a profound way. His unimaginable grief tested his faith in God and took away any motivation to write while he was immensely worried about his son, Charley, who signed up to fight in Civil War. But the sound of bells on Christmas morning reminded Longfellow of their hopeful voices and restored his poetic passion.
