The Family Toolbox Giveaway

I am a member of the Family Toolbox Blogger Team. I'm looking forward to using the Family Toolbox with my family. We have two teen sons left at home. I will be posting my review afterwards. Biblical parenting is so important for us Christians. Consider this quote by John Bunyan: " Your children have souls, and they must be born of God as well of you, or they perish. And know also, that unless you be very circumspect in your behavior to and before them, they may perish through you: the thoughts of which should provoke you, both to instruct, and also to correct them. " The Family Toolbox is a DVD/video-driven program that brings parents and teens together for constructive dialogue around significant issues of discipleship. Conversation is sparked by engaging video clips. Sixteen Life Success Principles are communicated through eight lessons that give parents and teens biblically-based, practical topics for discussion. The format grabs teens and gets them interacting. Th...

Book Review: Child's Play by Bill Myers

About the Author : Bill Myers is a writer/producer whose work has won over 70 national and international awards including a C.S. Lewis Honor Award. His books and videos have sold over 8 million copies and include, McGee and Me, My Life As..., Blood of Heaven, The Face of God, The God Hater, and Eli. When he’s not overseeing his production company, Amaris Media International, he loves speaking at schools and chatting with reader groups live by phone or the internet. My Review : My kids enjoy reading Bill Myers ' children books. This is the first book of Bill Myers I've ever read. It's written for adults. I enjoyed it. I laughed. I smiled. I pondered. Child's Play is the first book in The Last Fool Series. It's a funny book with a profound message. Each chapter is written with different characters' point of view. These characters are patients in Sisco Heights Mental Health Facility and the story takes place fifty years in the future when religion has...

DVD Review and Giveaway: Hero

Hero is a movie about the importance of fathers and the impact that fathers have on their sons who do look up to them. Joe Finn, a baseball coach, returns home after being away for 7 years in pursuit of his career as a scout for the big leagues, hoping to get rich. He only gets to spend 2 weeks with his wife, Hannah, who has cancer before she dies. He is left with his son, David, who holds a grudge against him. One thing they share is their love for baseball. Joe hopes to mend his relationship with David by offering to coach David's dying, non-competitive little league team, the Gappers. Joe decides to form a new baseball league that practices diligently, plays competitively, and aims to reconnect fathers and sons in the community. I cried during the movie. My father was absent from most of my life. I forgave him and had a chance to be at his death bed (even though he was unresponsive). It really touched me to see dads wanting to be there for their sons. A father can make a h...

Book Review: Grace Finds Wings by Jill Miller

My Review : Jill Miller is a Christian musician/singer/songwriter. This book explains where each of her songs on her latest CD, Grace Finds Wings , came from, what they mean to her, when they were written, how long it took her to write them, and other interesting facts behind each song. You can listen to her songs online at http://www.jillmillermusic.com/ . I really enjoy her music and I am encouraged by her beautiful, faith-filled lyrics. Knowing the background stories behind these songs makes listening to them much more meaningful. With transparency, Jill shares about her personal life's journey which includes her divorce, infertility, grief, adoption, motherhood, marriages, her dad's dementia, financial worries, career change, people-pleasing problem, doubts, and other struggles. I can relate with her regarding having a special needs child. It definitely brings many challenges. But what she went through was immense. I can also relate with her as we both have the ...

Book Review and Giveaway: Enough by Kate Conner

Starting out as a blog post, "Ten Things I Want to Tell Teenage Girls", Kate Conner put her thoughts into a book, Enough . I'm glad she did! Kate points out and explains 10 things that teenage girls need to hear. I agree that these practical truths must be instilled into teenage girls. The book covers various issues such as beauty, modesty, contentment, internet folly, social media, emotions, habits, passion, drama, flirtation, tanning, and more. Most teenage girls struggle with insecurity, immaturity, and overreactions. They need Godly wisdom and guidance. This book offers that. Even some mature women still seem to struggle with their worth, value, beauty, and confidence. I think it is a good reminder to all women that in Christ, we are enough, loved, beautiful, valuable, and unstoppable. I enjoyed reading it and appreciated her take-away points sprinkled throughout the book with #10things hashtag. Enough is an easy & fun read filled with valuable insights and...
