Film Review and Giveaway: I Still Believe

I was thrilled for the opportunity (via LEV3L) to review I Still Believe, the new inspiring film based on the real-life story of Christian singer and songwriter Jeremy Camp. My family and I have enjoyed and appreciated his music for years. This film is fantastic! It's a beautiful love story that also demonstrates faith, hope, and life's purpose. Jeremy Camp met his first wife, Melissa Henning, in college in 1999. Their short journey together was filled with sweet romance, brief separation, devastating diagnosis, incredible miracle, and tremendous loss/grief. Melissa was a bright shining star that glowed radiantly with God's love and her unwavering faith in our great God. She said, "If just one life comes to know Jesus through my cancer, it will all be worth it." What a wonderful testimony her life and suffering were indeed! "I Still Believe" was the first song (see lyrics below) that Jeremy Camp wrote after Melissa's death. Her life (and death) combined with his music continue to touch lives and make a global impact for God's glory and God's kingdom.

I Still Believe (rated PG) was directed by the Erwin Brothers, who also directed I Can Only Imagine (2018) which is based on the true story of Bart Millard (who wrote the song I Can Only Imagine). I Still Believe is starring KJ Apa (Riverdale, A Dog’s Purpose), Britt Robertson (A Dog's Purpose, The Space Between Us, Tomorrowland), Gary Sinise (Forest Gump, Apollo 13, CSI) and Shania Twain. The cast did an excellent job. I truly enjoyed the movie and loved all the music in the movie. I Still Believe is not just a regular romance story; it's about selfless and sacrificial love. It's also about disappointment, struggle, pain, healing, courage, prayer, family, and God's faithfulness through it all. It's a profound hope-filled film for everyone, especially during this difficult pandemic time when hope is so needed. I'm so pleased to see that at the end of the movie, an 800 number and a website's link are shared so that viewers can contact to learn more about the Gospel and Christian faith.

I Still Believe is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital. I highly recommend it. Several people mentioned that they have watched this movie multiple times already. You can support this wonderful Christian film by buying or renting it and by sharing its trailer. And don't forget to enter the giveaway below :).

I Still Believe by Jeremy Camp

Scattered words and empty thoughts
seem to pour from my heart
I've never felt so torn before
seems I don't know where to start
but it's now that I feel Your grace falls like rain
from every fingertip, washing away my pain

[Chorus:]
I still believe in Your faithfulness
I still believe in Your truth
I still believe in Your holy Word
even when I don't see, I still believe

Though the questions still fog up my mind
with promises I still seem to bear
even when answers slowly unwind
it's my heart I see You prepare
but it's now that I feel Your grace fall like rain
from every finger tip, washing away my pain

[Chorus]

The only place I can go is into Your arms
where I throw to You my feeble prayers
in brokenness I can see that this was Your will for me
Help me to know You are near

  2. The movie drew me in right from the get go. New music written to God from the heart helps me as I walk my journey.
I was about 7th grade when I first went to a church where they raised nhands and it kind of freaked me out but my heart needed a little understanding. In 1982 our pastor in Lexington, MA preached a series on the Kingdom of God and he was not trying to get us to raise our hands in worship but somehow it impacted me in that way. God the Father is King of this universe, He deserves all the glory & honor. Then some years later in another church where hands were raised, they talked about children lifting their hands to be picked up and that really resonated. God is Papa/ Abba father. Last but probably I have yet more to learn, is about surrender. When a police catches a criminal they tell them to put their hands in the air because that leaves them defenseless. They can’t reach for a knife or a gun. God is not looking to turn us in but to take us into his family to redeem us.
In private worship I do this. At concerts where it is acceptable I do with full abandon. At churches not so comfortable with it I am discreet.
We are called to be real. They portrayed this well. Some may say, “ The doctors lied to them, she was never healed“ but you can choose to believe such a thing but I know of something like this in someone’s life.
At the part where Melissa had died and Jeremy Camp’s father was interacting with his son in his time of grief. He tells him that his life is full not in spite of but because of the hard things we have to go through. One of Jeremy’s brothers had a disability, the father mostly did not get to use his ministry degree he had gone to school for and now Jeremy did not have Melissa to spend the rest of his life with. But he still had God and his God would use his story if he would let him.
Melissa begged him to tell the story while still here, her journal spoke to him after her death and although I knew some of the story it had quite the ending that only God could write.
My life verse is John 10:10 the enemy comes to steal and kill and destroy but I (Jesus) have come to give you life abundantly. I had an enemy and my son is not here on earth anymore but I have a full life.
Music has also been part of my healing. Blessings, There will be a Day, the Hurt and the Healer, Even If, many of Chris Tomlins worship songs, the list goes on....

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo...
