MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW:
Easter (I like to call it, "Resurrection Day") is approaching. I was thankful for an opportunity to review The Crossmaker, a unique DVD that explores the resurrection account through interactive art. A grandfather told his grandchildren about a crossmaker named Dominic. Dominic witnessed Christ's death on the cross made by his hands and felt so ashamed and sad but an encounter with the risen Christ changed everything. We enjoyed the story; however, the camera movement is shaky and takes away from the flow of the story. The chalk drawings that are used to depict the story are well done. I love the three art lessons taught by 3 different art teachers. They demonstrate and explain very well. It's easy to follow their step by step instructions. There's a cool surprise for you to see in each art work. I also enjoyed watching Gloria Kohlmann draw an Easter picture with chalk while listening to beautiful worship music performed by Breathing Room (Jan Roper and Kevin Dukes). Very soothing and inspiring! You can also hear Gloria's commentary as you watch her creating that spectacular Easter scene. She made it look so easy and fun :). Another great bonus feature is a presentation of salvation using art. It's clear and simple for kids to understand. I'm quite impressed with See The Light. I really like their motto ("Drawing children to Him"). They make art enjoyable, doable, and Biblically relevant. I'm not good at art so this is great for me to use in our homeschool :). Check out The Crossmaker DVD, 150 minutes of wonderful Resurrection content, perfect for celebrating Easter with your kids in a creative way!

  1. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethern, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrw not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unt you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend fsrom heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

  2. We have a fine arts curriculum woven into our unit study, which is called "Learning Adventures". We ordered some art and music materials from Rod and Staff last year, but they never sent them, so I don't know if I like them or not!

The first posted scripture is what we based our music selection on for our worship service this week and what I was going to post! We were led to songs that went with that scripture like: Just Over in the Gloryland, Mansion Over the Hilltop, This World Is Not My Home, Joy in the Journey, Unclouded Day, Glorious Day, and I'll Fly Away.

Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

  3. 1 Peter 1:3-5
3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

We currently do not have an official art curriculum. I have used various books from the library and from another home schooling mom who's children are older. Would love to have this to use : )

  16. We've been using Artistic Pursuits for the past couple of years but just purchased Art Class from See the Light after testing out their first dvd. My kids from ages 4-10, did very well on the lessons and especially loved one of the chalk art lessons that we test out too. I love that it's on dvd format so I can refer back to it as needed and it's not an online membership type program that I can't download and save for later use or future children. Thanks for the chance to win the Crossmaker dvd!

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo...
