DVD Review: CAMP

CAMP is a must-see film inspired by true stories from camps for abused, neglected, and abandoned children. It's the story about a troubled, physically abused, biting ten-year-old boy, Eli and a self-absorbed, career-minded, cell phone-addicted investment advisor, Ken, who get paired at a summer camp for foster kids and learn the true meaning and the healing power of unconditional love. At first, Ken (Eli's counselor) struggles to connect with Eli. Eli is filled with anger, distrust, and shame, haunted by his past. Once Ken stops complaining and starts caring instead, things begin to turn around.

Raw. Powerful. Absolutely inspiring and touching! I was totally captivated from the beginning to the end. And I cried more than once. I really enjoyed the movie and loved all the different characters (campers and counselors). There's even a cool surprise near the end of the movie :). It's incredible how one week of camp can make such an enormous impact on the lives of these children who have endured so much hardship. Excellent performance! Kudos to all the real-life campers who volunteer their time to help foster kids have fun and experience God's love, hope, friendship, encouragement, safe environment, and trust. These broken and forgotten kids desperately need caring & understanding adults in their lives to positively influence, guide, and nurture them.

Jacob Roebuck, the film’s writer and director, received inspiration for the film when he joined a summer missions trip and had the opportunity to help abused and neglected children through a program called Royal Family Camp. Once there, he felt the call to help the children he met that so desperately needed contact with loving and caring adults. A portion of the proceeds from the film benefit Royal Family KIDS, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) non-profit that serves as the nation’s leading network of camps for abused, neglected and abandoned children.

The film is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 110 minutes. The DVD was released on Aug. 27th. For more information about “CAMP,” Royal Family KIDS, Inc. and to view a trailer, visit: www.campthemovie.com.

This is a wonderful film about healing the wounds of your past... We are pleased to award this movie our Dove ‘Family-Approved’ Seal for ages 12 and over.” ~The Dove Foundation

Most of the time, movies and television shows spotlight the lighter side of youth camps, but CAMP goes deeper to bring viewers face-to-face with the transformation that happens in the lives of children and even the adults that volunteer. It is incredibly heart affecting, even through the real-life interviews that play during the credits.”  ~DeWayne Hamby (Christian Retailing, White Wing Messenger)

Hollywood loves to entertain us. But CAMP does more than entertain – it inspires. It beautifully illustrates the huge impact the small sacrifice of a week’s time can make in the life of a child in foster care.” ~Julie Gumm, best-selling author of “Adopt without Debt”

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
