Book Review: Is Sunday School Destroying Our Kids? by Samuel C. Williamson

This book is small but packed with great truths! It's more about grace vs. moralism than about Sunday School's effect on our kids. Why do lots of kids from Christian homes leave their faith when they leave home? Could it be because they have never truly understood and embraced the Gospel of God's grace and/or they have been taught the false gospel? Don't ever assume that your children understand and embrace the Gospel just because they grow up in a Christian home and regularly go to church and youth groups. They may be "perfect" children or little "Bible scholars"...but until they truly grasp their unworthiness/brokenness and the wonder of God's profound love for them, it's just behavior modification and fact memorization, not heart (& life) transformation. The author wants to warn us about that. He also talks about the danger and ugliness of self-righteousness and the folly of self-reliance.

This book reminds us what grace is really about and why moralism without the gospel is suffocating and often detrimental. I am eternally grateful for God's amazing grace!
I enjoyed reading this insightful, Gospel-centered book and highly recommend it. Grace and truth has been our parenting style. We've made plenty of mistakes but we've been intentionally teaching our children about God's grace and God's truth. God's grace saves, forgives, liberates, transforms, sustains, strengthens, and empowers us. When you live by & rest in God's grace and abide in Christ; joy, contentment, love, peace, gratitude, courage, and hope will occupy your heart. Remember that
God wants your relationship, not your resume!

"Self-reliance on willpower has only two results: misery when we fail or smugness when we succeed. Despair drags others down with us; pride drives others down under us." (p. 63)

"Being a Christian means that we finally cease from the interminable striving for self-applause, and we rest by faith in the significance freely given to us by God's grace." (p. 78)

  1. Hi,

Thanks so much for your great review of my book. I am honored and a bit humbled. Wow. Thanks.

We need each other and the grace we can offer each other. And we only get that grace to give by receiving it first from Him.

    Thanks

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
