Book Review: Wheels of Wisdom by Tim & Debbie Bishop

I enjoyed reading their first book, Two Are Better. I was excited for an opportunity to review this book. It did not disappoint me. In Wheels of Wisdom, the authors (who are a married couple and volunteer coaches for TheHopeLine) share 52 valuable life lessons that they learned during their three cycling tours (totaling over 10,000 miles). Some chapters are written by Tim Bishop and others are written by Debbie Bishop. The book is divided into 6 main sections: Charting the Course, Shifting Gears, Taking Precautions, Finding Motivation, Riding through Storms, and Enjoying the Ride. The authors impart their wisdom through their stories of exciting adventures. Their experiences on the road are unique and have taught them how to navigate through life's journey. Life is filled with ups and downs, challenges, obstacles, changes, and blessings. It's inspiring and encouraging to see that the authors do not let their age (they're in their 50s) or struggles prevent them from living out their dreams and passions. No one is immune to heartache, temptation, mistakes, or difficult circumstances. This book will give you encouragement and hope and help you move forward and persevere.

Each lesson in the book includes Scriptures and three thought-provoking questions for personal reflection. The book is filled with Biblical truths/principles and practical insights. The book includes some black and white photos of their cycling journey. I really think the idea in Lesson #3 is great. Debbie asked Tim to blow the whistle anytime she complains about anything. It's an interesting way to break a bad habit. In Lesson #16, Debbie shares her personal testimony of Christ's redeeming, transforming power that sets the captive free. Lesson #36 and the epilogue will make you think about your eternal destination. The lessons in the book cover many topics such as marriage, relationship, goals, attitudes, adjustments, fear, worry, compassion, and more. I highly recommend this faith-filled, wisdom-packed book.

"Once you discover your special attributes and devote your time to utilizing them, you'll experience deep joy and fulfillment as you live out a facet of God's calling on your life." (p. 9)

"When trusting God with the big picture, our job is to follow Him one day and one act of obedience at a time. He explains how to conduct our lives in His road map for life. It's a great way to live. The Bible contains instructions that can guide you wherever you go in life. Its time-tested life principles make it the ultimate travel guide." (p. 26)

"When setbacks come, don't assume they spell the end of your journey. They may simply be a special provision to support the remainder of your trek." (p. 139)

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
