Book Review and Giveaway: Take Back Your Life: A 40-Day Interactive Journey to Thinking Right So You Can Live Right

Life is messy and at times pure crazy! Levi Lusko invites readers to take a stand and live their lives intentionally and triumphantly. Take Back Your Life is a 40-day interactive devotional about thinking right so that you can live right. If you feel discouraged and feel like your life just drifts from day to day aimlessly, this book is for you. If you feel worn out struggling with internal battles day in and day out, this book is for you. If you feel helpless facing loss, pain, and/or difficulties, this book is for you.

The book is divided into six sections (six weeks): Look in the Mirror, Turn Off the Dark, Cross the Barbed Wire, Run Toward the Roar, Be the Difference, and Think Right, Live Right. Each chapter starts with Scriptures and ends with prayer and thought-provoking questions for reflection/journaling plus some action steps to take. Take Back Your Life is filled with Biblical truths, great insights, and practical advice. It will show you how to win the war against the version of you that you don't want to be and to live out the best version of yourself, instead. The author equips you with strategies for victory in three key fields of battles: how you think, how you speak, and how you act.

You were created by God on purpose for His purpose. Don't let anything hold you back from living the life God wants you to live to make an eternal impact for His glory and His kingdom. This book will challenge and inspire you to walk by faith, not by sight and to fight darkness with light. The author offers tools for overcoming self-pity, self-loathing, and self-sabotaging tendencies. Some of the topics covered in the book include identity crisis, anxiety, fear, depression, death, grief, spiritual warfare, faith, and eternal perspective.

I really appreciate the author's authenticity, humility, godly wisdom, and Christ-centered message. Levi shares openly about his loss (his 5-year-old daughter suddenly died 5 days before Christmas seven years ago), pain, struggles, flaws, etc. You will learn what God has taught him through his personal experiences. Take Back Your Life is an enjoyable and encouraging read. I like Levi's humor, movie references (ex: Lord of the Rings, Braveheart, Night at the Museum, Gladiator, Kung Fu Panda 3, Finding Nemo, and more), and wolf lessons. Check this book out! It's great for either a small group study or a personal study.

"Suffering is not an obstacle to being used by God; it's an opportunity to be used like never before." (p. 86)
"So instead of stopping a thought, replace a thought. You have to actively feed the positive and starve the negative. How do we do this? I've found the best way is through reciting Scripture and singing worship songs." (p. 93)
"My ability to respond well to external battles has everything to do with my ability to fight the internal war successfully." (p. 108)
"One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to try to do God's work without God's power." (p. 175)
"People who do the right things only when they feel them never enter into the victorious life. Worship is not a feeling expressed through actions; it's an act of obedience." (p. 227)
"And we must never give up. Satan, who kills and steals and destroys, would love to take your life or trick you into taking your life, but through Jesus you have the power to take back your life from the things that would hold you back or knock you out. You must stay the course. The best is yet to come." (p. 280)

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
