Movie Review: Redeeming Love

Redeeming Love is a riveting love story based on the bestselling novel by Francine Rivers, which is a retelling of the Biblical story of Hosea and Gomer. The setting is the California Gold Rush of 1850. Michael (Tom Lewis), a simple farmer, trusts God to give him a wife and believes Angel is the one. Angel (Abigail Cowen) had a very harsh childhood and was sold into prostitution at a young age. As a young woman still working in the brothel, she is filled with bitterness, distrust, and hatred towards men (since they only use her and abuse her) and herself (because of all the guilt and shame). No matter what Angel does or how many times she leaves Michael, his love for her never wavers.

The movie is well done. Outstanding performance by the cast. Great cinematography. It's a long movie (2 hours and 14 minutes) but it captivated my attention the whole time. I found one particular scene quite disturbing; however, I still enjoyed the movie and appreciated this beautiful story of hope, healing, faith, free will, the power of unconditional, relentless love, rescue, and restoration. I was touched and I did cry. The story reflects God's redeeming love towards us sinners, in spite of how unfaithful and ungrateful we are. He is ready to forgive us for all our sins (even those considered unthinkable atrocities). Redeeming Love is coming to theaters this Friday, January 21st. Rated PG-13 for mature thematic content, sexual content, partial nudity, and strong violent content.

I was so glad to find out that Francine Rivers is generously donating not only all her book profits, but also all her profits from this movie to the Redeeming Love Sanctuary Foundation. The Redeeming Love Sanctuary Foundation's mission is to aid in preventing sex trafficking and abuse by funding survivor support services, education, and recovery programs in the U.S. and abroad. They give out grants to frontline organizations that are fighting sex trafficking and working directly with survivors. Hope you will go watch this inspiring movie and support this great cause!

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
