Review: The Homeschool Awakening Plus $10 Amazon Giftcard Giveaway

I did not know that Kirk Cameron and his wife have homeschooled their six children until I watched his documentary on homeschooling, The Homeschool Awakening. I am familiar with homeschooling since I personally homeschooled all my three children for 20 years from the very beginning to their high school graduation. I enjoyed and agreed with this documentary. Homeschooling has been around for a long time yet there are still misconceptions about it. This documentary addresses those misconceptions (ex: socialization, parent's qualification, quality of education, etc.), the history of education in our nation, the benefits of homeschooling, and the end goal of homeschooling. Homeschooling has many advantages and benefits which include freedom, flexibility, stability, efficiency, learning at an individual's own pace, exploring each child's interests & passions, instilling the knowledge of God and His Word into our children's heart and mind, safe & loving environment where growth in wisdom and character is fostered, learning to be life-long learners, opportunities to relate to people of all ages, precious quality time with parents and siblings, valuable life skills, and more.

In this documentary, Kirk Cameron interviewed several homeschooling families (more than a dozen) with different backgrounds and different homeschooling styles. Each family is different and there are so many ways to homeschool. The world is truly our classroom. Since the pandemic hit, more and more families have begun to look into homeschooling as an alternative for their children's education. Realistically, homeschooling is not for every family and there are certainly some challenges (especially if you have a special needs child) but in my opinion (even after working for a private Christian school), homeschooling was the best option for my own family and is for many Christian families. Even with all the ups and downs, I would have done it all over again. In spite of my shortcomings in my 20 years of homeschooling, I was pleasantly surprised to hear my daughter saying that she wishes I could homeschool her children someday in the future (she is married but has no children yet; her husband and she live in a different state than mine). I told her I would love to.

If you are curious about or are considering homeschooling, check out this wonderful informative documentary. Find out the ins and outs, the joys and blessings of homeschooling. The Homeschool Awakening releases in theaters nationwide on June 13 and 14 only. You can buy tickets here

  2. I really want to see this movie but I worked those two days. Why is it the good Christian movies are only shown in theatre for a minimal time but garbage movies are out for a long long time?!

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo...
