Pastor's Kid is a raw R-rated film based on a true story of Riley, a college student who struggles with drugs & alcohol and deep wounds from her dysfunctional childhood filled with neglect and religious hypocrisy. Growing up with an alcoholic mother and having to be the one to raise her little brother put a huge strain in the relationship between Riley (played by Courtney Bandeko) and her mother, Karen (played by Krista Morin). A "good Christian girl" becomes an out-of-control partygoer who lives in meaningless pursuit of worldly pleasures, always looking for the next fix (a temporary bandage for her pain & misery) and teetering on the brink of nervous breakdown.
I'm glad that's not the end of Riley's story. God loves all the prodigal sons and daughters. God loves the broken and the messed-up. God's unstoppable love never gives up on them. Pastor's Kid is a compelling story of faith, redemption, forgiveness, and healing. It shows God's transformative power that can break any chains. No one is beyond God's saving grace! True, lasting hope and freedom can only be found in Christ alone. This film is rated R for drug & alcohol use throughout and profanity (f-words and God's Name used in vain). It's hard for me to watch at times, especially when God's Name is used in vain (I wish they would leave that out). I understand that they try to make it authentic showing the intense reality of growing up with an alcoholic and living in the destructive drug/party lifestyle. Excellent performance from the main cast and the supporting cast. Pastor's Kid will be in theaters on March 15th. It's a thought-provoking movie for you and your friends, for believers and non-believers to have discussions about afterwards.
“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in Heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish." (Matthew 18:12-14)
