Mission ConneXion Northwest 2011

Yesterday, my 17 yo daughter, Alyssa, and I went to Mission ConneXion Northwest 2011 at Sunset Presbyterian Church in Portland.  We spent a whole day there attending workshops and visiting different mission exhibits.  We had a blessed time!

I attended the following workshops:
- Sharing the Good News in Word and Deed (presented by Andrew and Kevin Palau)
- Growing World Christians, Start Them Young (presented by Dorothea Lander)
- Reaching Unreached Peoples--the Beginning or End? (presented by Joe Murray and Larry Taylor)
- What Can You Do to Reach Unreached Peoples? (presented by Joe Murray and Larry Taylor).

Alyssa attended the following workshops:
- Back to the Future: Following Paul in Tentmaking (presented by Kevin Williamson)
- Preparation for Mission (presented by Gerald Griffin)
- Utilizing Missionaries to Set Others Free (presented by George Verwer)
- Missions--Can It Change Your Life? (presented by Ryan Fast).

There were so many wonderful mission organizations.  Some of our favorites were Frontiers, Gospel for Asia, International Students, Inc (ISI), Living Waters, New Tribes Mission, Operation Mobilization (OM), Voice of the Martyrs, and Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Our family takes the Great Commission seriously. It was delightful to mingle with people who shared our vision and passion :). Alyssa is considering going on a short-term mission with OM after she graduates from highschool homeschool this year. Let's take the Gospel to the nations!

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'" Romans 10:14-15

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo...
