Top Ten Highlights from 2010

We are so grateful for the Lord's blessings, love, grace, mercy, and faithfulness throughout the years.  I like to take a look back each year at what He had done for us, in us, and through us.  We're especially thankful for the Lord's healing on our 12 year old son.  There's a big difference in him between 2009 and 2010.

1. Our daughter, Alyssa (16 then), gave 2 wonderful speeches at our local speech/apologetics club.

2. I was the Grand Prize Winner for Focus on the Family's Celebrating Life Contest in February. I've won a trip for two to Colorado and lunch with Jim Daly, the President of Focus on the Family, but Focus on the Family has not given me the prize yet (Update as of Feb., 2011: FOTF is arranging an all expense paid trip for our whole family of 5 to visit Colorado in July! Praise God!). I also won a Rosetta Stone Giveaway (from Rosetta Stone via a blog).  We picked Mandarin Chinese.

3. I was one of the contributors (by the name, "LivingforGod") at Faithful Feet, an international Christian blog.

4. Alyssa (16 then) raised $1,670 for Pregnancy Resource Centers via Steps for Life (which she has participated in for over 11 years).  $1,670 was her highest amount so far :).

5. Alyssa (16 then) and our youngest son (8 then) made a video titled, "Trying to Forget."

6. Alyssa (17) launched Childlike Faith Publishing in November.  Currently, there are two ebooks for sale (see my blog's right sidebar for more information).

7. Alyssa (17) made another video titled, "Why I Believe God Exists."

8. Alyssa (17) won 3rd place at our local Bible Bee competition and qualified for the National Bible Bee Competition but decided not to travel to Illinois to compete due to the expenses.

9. Alyssa (17) won 1st place at the Homeschool Writer of the Year Competition.  It’s a competition to see which homeschool writer can enter the most contests on the contest chart from February 1st to November 30th.  She entered 67 contests within those 10 months.  Her prize was a William Wallace sword.
10. Alyssa (17) won $50 cash as the first runner-up in the local VFW's Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest and also won $25 at the district level.

In addition, Alyssa's writing has been accepted for publication by various online and print magazines.  Our youngest son (8 then) got an honorable mention in a coloring contest; he won 2 books.

We're looking forward to seeing what the Lord has in store for us in 2011.  We hope and pray that we will bear much fruit for His glory in 2011.

About the series: The series is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West. “When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
