About Beautiful Battlefields:
Where is God in the midst of this?
You've probably heard that
question or perhaps asked it yourself. In the battle for your joy, your
marriage, your finances, your health, an emptiness creeps in. Where is
the peace You promised, God?
Bo
Stern has been there-and is still there. Yet in studying the battles in
Scripture, she came to a startling conclusion: God is using these
fierce fights in our lives for an astonishing purpose.

My Review:
Sooner or later, everyone will face a trial or battle of some kind. Then you'll have to choose whether you want to run to God and have Him on your side or run away from God and fight your battle alone. The author has chosen the former while going through this battle against her husband's Lou Gehrig's disease. She shares the beauty she has discovered in the battlefield with Biblical wisdom, practical insights, and raw emotions. She and her family have clung to the G50:20 Principle: "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." (Genesis 50:20) She also shares the strategies for growing stronger through every battle. Each chapter ends with Worth Pondering (thought-provoking questions) and Worth Doing (practical suggestions). The appendix includes relevant Scriptures for different needs that may arise during battle. What is your Goliath? Check out this encouraging & inspiring book and you'll know that suffering is never in vain when you're in Christ! I've already recommended this book to others (who are going through a fierce battle of cancer) and I'm sure this book will continue to be a blessing to many.
"Now that I've walked with Him this far through this fight, I am certain of this one truth: Some beautiful things can only be found in the hardest times." (p.18)
"Healing is a powerful sign to the world that God is real and strong and compassionate, and I am praying for healing every day. However, I don't believe it's the only way that God shows His goodness or demonstrates His love for us." (p.31)
"One of the hidden treasures we can find on the battlefield is the ability to clearly see the strength of the One who fights for us." (p.48)
"My vantage point allows me to see that joy makes the suffering possible, and that suffering makes the joy more beautiful." (p81)
"At best, bitterness is disruptive and ineffective; at worst, it's lonely and destructive." (p.143)
