A.C.T.S. Part III: Grow in Your Walk with God Every Day

For moms with kids in school, the most hectic months of the year are usually September and May. The end of the school year involves parties, playoffs, and final projects. The beginning of the year has moms and kids feeling overloaded with shopping trips, sign-ups, and new schedules. I'm glad we homeschool :)!

Establishing healthy, positive routines is a tough job. Too often, music lessons, sports practices, and after-school clubs can overshadow the routines that build family and healthy habits—both physically and spiritually.
One of the great new Adventures in Odyssey products released this year is 90 Devotions for Kids, aimed at kids 8 to 12. This soft-cover book draws you in with illustrations, puzzles, and kid-friendly applications. It also includes a daily Bible verse, daily challenges, words of encouragement from different AIO characters, and more. Even if your kids aren’t already Adventures in Odyssey fans, they’ll enjoy these daily devotionals, and get to know the Odyssey crew along the way.

This devotional, and the edition coming this fall (90 Devotions for Kids: Life Changing Values from the Book of Matthew) are great tools to help your kids put a regular pause in their day for Bible reading, prayer, and thoughts about God. If you start now—by the first day of school, you’ll already have a spiritual component scheduled into your kids’ routine. After that, everything else will hopefully just fall into line!

  1. For family devotions we are reading from Egermeier's Bible story book and my girls bring home Bible bookmarks from SS that deal with a certain topic (this week it is Judging) and verses that talk about that weeks topic and we discuss what the verses are saying.

  2. First thing in the morning, the older kids stay in their rooms and spend time with Jesus. I help the younger ones that can't read yet. It's been a good way to not just spend time together learning about God (which we do later), but having them learn the importance of them spending alone time with their best Friend!

  8. As a homeschool mama, I encourage daily individual devotions for my oldest and work with my two youngest together. We are reading Leading Little Ones to God. We have really loved it. We also have a group Bible time during the school year.

  12. I usually use Big Truths for Little Kids to help my 6 and 4 year old learn the truths of the catechism. A devotional for older children would be very helpful as my 6 year old is an avid reader and can handle her own devotional at this point. courtneypharmd@hotmail.com

  13. I'm in the process of finding a good devotional program for kids. So far they like to read their bible every night and share what they think God told them through the word. My email: ariaslupitaa@gmail.com

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
