DVD Review and Giveaway: When Calls the Heart "Second Chances"

When Calls the Heart--"Second Chances" is the latest DVD in the When Calls the Heart television series inspired by the writings of Janette Oke and directed by Michael Landon, Jr. On this DVD, Elizabeth Thatcher tries to find ways to help one of her older students, Bo Grady, learn how to read despite his father's opposition. Meanwhile, Abigail Stanton dares to follow her dream by fixing up the abandoned cafe in Coal Valley despite discouragement from Gowen and a great sacrifice required. Adam Miller struggles to adjust to living with one leg. It's not only difficult for him but also for his wife and 2 daughters. Elizabeth feels overwhelmed when she finds out that she has only one week to prepare her students for the annual Founder's Day Play. Jack Thorton (the local Mounty) has got a surprise up his sleeves and hopes to win Elizabeth's heart. When Calls the Heart--"Second Chances" is a beautiful story of overcoming challenges, pressing on even when feeling like giving up, working together, finding hope, and recognizing love. "Love travels with you wherever you go!" (~Elizabeth) My daughter and I enjoyed watching this DVD and highly recommend it. Great performances! Entertaining and inspiring! We also enjoyed the bonus feature in the DVD which includes interviews and the making of the film ("Creating Coal Valley").

  1. Jeremiah 29:11, this is the verse we use as a family verse--to keep our eye on the goal of pastoral ministry and to never look back.

  2. Throughout many years of my life I have read almost all f Janette Oke's books. When I used to read them I would think these stories would make great movies. Am so glad they were made into movies. juanitawickey@mal.om

  3. Psalm 27:13 I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

It's a verse that gives hope when life becomes difficult. We can know that there are good days ahead, God is with us in the present, working all things out. (marg) kitc 19 at yahoo.ca

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
