Book Review: Mother & Son by Emerson Eggerichs

Review:
Mothers love their sons. But mothers need to respect their sons, too, whether they deserve it or not. Often moms have difficulty relating to their sons, especially as they get older. This book comes to the rescue! Mother & Son shows moms why respect is so important to sons, what respect looks like and sounds like, what God expects of a mother, how to apply respect-talk, what boys and men innately desire, and more. At the end of the book, you'll find Appendix A: A Quick Start For Those Who Feel Pressed for Time, Appendix B: A Checklist (Apply G.U.I.D.E.S. to His Six Desires: C.H.A.I.R.S.), Appendix C: Daughters, Adult Women, and Mommy Issues, Appendix D: Tell Us Your Story, Appendix E: Emerson's 21 Days of Inspiration in Applying the Respect Message, and a bonus chapter, "The Real Reason to Parent God's Way" from Love & Respect in the Family.

I'm thankful for this book since I myself have two sons (17 & 14 years old). I find Mother & Son very helpful, insightful, and practical. It helps moms understand their sons better and know how to connect with them in more effective & meaningful ways. As several researches reveal and confirm, males do filter their world more through the respect grid than the love grid. No matter how old your son is, this book will be beneficial and relationship-boosting for you. The author offers suggestions for both younger boys and older boys. The respect effect motivates and energizes boys/men. On the other hand, the disrespect is disastrous. I've learned a lot about respect-talk from this book and written down in my notebook what I want to practice saying to my sons. I love this book and highly recommend it to all moms who have a son/sons!

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo...

Book Review: Immeasurably More: 100 Devotions on God's Extravagant Grace by Deb Burma

I was excited to review this devotional book for 3 reasons: 1. I collect devotional books, 2. I'm a big fan of God's grace, and 3. The theme of our church's women retreat this year (this weekend) is Ephesians 3: 20-21, " Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory ." which is also the theme for this book. Immeasurably More is a beautiful and meaningful devotional journal. It has 100 devotions organized into 10 different topics (grace, love, power, provision, purpose, peace, joy, gifts, rest, and life). Each devotion starts with Scriptures and ends with journaling and prayer prompts. This journal can be used individually or in a group study.  I have been blessed and refreshed by God's wondrous truths and Godly insights found in this book. These encouraging, inspiring devotions invite readers to bask in God's goodness and to experience His never-ending, jaw-drop...
