Our 2018 in Summary

2018 was another year of mixture of grief and joy. We had another death in the family two years in a row. We enjoyed various outdoor activities: golf, basketball, tennis, badminton, and croquet. Both Eric and I turned half a century old :). Through it all, God has been good, faithful, and gracious!

On January 10th, we had two big scares on the same day. Our daughter had a car accident in San Angelo, TX. Someone ran through a red light in the intersection and hit my daughter's car (see picture below). So grateful that God protected Alyssa and her friends (passengers). They only had minor aches and pains. Alyssa bought a cobalt blue 2018 Toyota Corolla SE Sedan to replace her totaled car.
On the same day, my father-in-law (who was 81) had a stroke. We're so thankful that God healed him and restored his health.

On February 10th, Josiah bought a white 1993 Lexus (his 3rd car) for $1,600. It is still working well :).

On March 2nd, we moved out of our Newberg home (lived there for about 10 years) into our Salem home (my husband's childhood home which we bought from his stepdad after his mom died last year).

On March 4th, we discovered that my husband's brother died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. So sudden and so tragic! We moved to Salem, hoping to be closer to him and visit him more often.

On March 17th, we traded in our 2011 Toyota Tundra 4-wheel drive truck for a blue 2018 Subaru Impreza all-wheel drive.

April 29th was Josiah's last day at Wendy's. On May 2nd, he started working as a customer service representative at Dansons Grill. He quit on June 9th because he realized it's not the right kind of job for him.

In May, Eric, our sons, and I took a day trip to the beach. We had a blast.

On May 22nd, Alyssa graduated from her training in TX. In June, she is assigned to Fort McChord Air Force Base in WA (we're so thankful that her request was granted).

In June, we had fun at our annual cookout & croquet at my father-in-law's house.

On July 8th, Josiah started working at Domino's Pizza.

In September, Eric and I celebrated our 27th anniversary in Lincoln City.

On October 6th, Isaiah took his SAT.

On October 21st, Eric and I enjoyed our rare but wonderful date at Deepwood Wine & Jazz.

In November, Eric planted about 50 tulips for me.

On December 1st, Josiah and Isaiah took SAT Subject Tests (Math I and Math II).

On December 8th, Eric, Isaiah, and I went to our first Holiday Swap in Portland.

On December 12th, Eric, Isaiah, and I went to Holidays at the Capitol.

On December 17th, Eric, our sons, and I went to Zoolights (our first time) at the Oregon Zoo.

From December 23rd to December 30th, Alyssa spent her Christmas break with us.

For Christmas, Eric bought me a new PC (hp Touch All-in-One) (I had not had a new computer for at least more than a decade). We also got a new XBOX One S (4K BLU-RAY HDR) for our family.

On December 28th, Eric, I, Isaiah, Alyssa, and Jacob had our lunch at Pine State Biscuits and enjoyed a round of 13-hole miniature golf at Glowing Greens PDX.

Below is a slideshow of our 2018 recap.

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
