Book Review and Giveaway: What I Wish I Knew at 18 by Dennis Trittin

About Dennis Trittin
Dennis Trittin is a successful investment manager, educator and mentor committed to helping young adults reach their full potential. Now retired from managing over $30 billion in assets, he devotes his life to promoting leadership and life management on a global basis. Trittin serves as an advisor to several charitable groups and as a speaker with national and local educational and community organizations. Dennis and his wife Jeanne are parents of two young adults and reside in the Seattle area.
At 18, most people begin to face a life of independence, freedom, and new challenges. Often, it's also a time when many make mistakes and end up living with regrets. The author, Dennis Trittin, desires to help equip young people to be well prepared for the road ahead, to make wise choices, and to live a meaningful life. The book consists of 100 life success pointers categorized into 10 topics: Life Perspective, Character, Relationships and Communication, Spiritual Life, Handling Adversity, Miscellaneous, College Academics, Career Selection and Advancement, Love and Marriage, and Managing Your Finances. This book offers lots of common sense wisdom, practical advice, and sound life lessons. Consider it your personal coach/guide! Each pointer ends with a "Take Five" section which includes steps to take and key questions for readers to ponder. This book is an easy read, not preachy but very encouraging and informative. It's such a wonderful tool that I'm going to make sure all my three kids read it before leaving home :). Andy Andrews said, "While experience is a good teacher, other people's experience is even better" and I agree. Learn from this book and you'll be able to avoid many missteps in your life journey! I highly recommend this book to all parents, teens, and young adults. It makes an excellent gift for high school graduates!

"The most transforming lives are found in people who apply their God-given talents to a worthy cause." (p.26)

"The joy and satisfaction that comes from giving our time, talent, and treasure so outweighs the fun of accumulating that I regret not starting this process earlier." (p.29)

"Your character is the quintessential guide to your behavior; and is especially revealed when no one else is looking." (p.52)

"No matter what you do, preserve your integrity, values, and reputation with every ounce of strength you can muster. You will absolutely, positively, definitely, and totally regret it if you don't!" (p.58)

"If people truly approached marriage as a forever decision, as their vows claim, they'd be more rigorous in their selection and more patient when experiencing bumps in the road. Instead, couples often make snap judgments to marry and throw in the towel when times get tough or someone new comes along...A strong, lasting marriage is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our kids." (p.195)

Your worth isn't measured in what you achieve, but in who you are. Do not compare yourself to others: materialistically, academically, etc.

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
