DVD Review: When Calls the Heart: Heart and Soul

When Calls the Heart series is inspired by Janette Oke's book series. This DVD is the second DVD of Season 2. Coal Valley is now changed to Hope Valley since the coal mine is shut down. Jack returns to Hope Valley while Elizabeth remains in Hamilton. She spends a lot of time with her childhood friend, Charles Kensington. She is torn between her comfortable living in Hamilton and her new life in Hope Valley. Rosemary Leveaux is offered a role in a play in San Francisco and leaves Hope Valley with two "producers". Abigail Stanton leaves Hope Valley for Hamilton because she is worried about Clara, her daughter-in-law. Bill Avery helps Abigail find Clara. There are several twists and turns in this DVD. Deception. Manipulation. Temptation. Oppression. Decision. Secrets. Rescue. Wedding. New mayor. New pastor. My daughter and I have enjoyed watching this family-friendly series. It's not preachy but it still shows the power of love, the power of prayer, and Biblical values.

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey.
