CD Review: Steph Carse's My Shining Hour

My Shining Hour is Steph Carse's new album which consists of some original songs, two hymns, and two cover songs. His voice reminds me of Elvis Presley :). On this album, he personally wrote four songs ("Awesome", "Healing River", "My Shining Hour", and "I Sing") from what he has experienced in his life and along his journey of faith.

Below is the list of songs:
1. Amazing Grace
2. Awesome
3. Healing River
4. My Shining Hour
5. Sometimes It Rains
6. To Make You Feel My Love
7. Crying in the Chapel
8. I Sing
9. How Great Thou Art
10. The Lord's Prayer

"Amazing Grace" (written by John Newton) is probably the most beloved and most sung hymn ever! The message is timeless and the melody is haunting. Unfortunately, we could become so familiar with it that it doesn't touch our soul like it used to. I was pleasantly surprised and stirred by Steph Carse's beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace. He sings the second stanza in Scottish Gaelic. I cannot understand Gaelic but it still sounds amazing. He also adds some chanting in the background that sounds like a battle cry. The song, "Awesome" is indeed awesome! This upbeat & uplifting song will make you smile and dance. The song is written to remind us of Psalm 139:14, "I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well." This anthem's message is to celebrate our awesome life as a child of God and to shine. Steph Carse hopes to raise awareness of the danger of bullying and the power of words. "Healing River" is a song of prayer with the desire to live a life closer to God. "My Shining Hour" is a personal song about Steph Carse's realization that his shining hour is time he spends with God and for God. "After pursuing happiness through achievement and success for most of my life, I realized that my shining hour came at the moment I found boldness in my intimacy with God." (Steph Carse) At the end of the song, there's a reading of Psalm 40:1-3. "Sometimes It Rains" is a song of faith to remind us to never stop believing. Personally, I'm not a Bob Dylan's fan but I like a few of his songs. "Make You Feel My Love" is one of them and Steph Carse did a great job on this love song. He likes the fact that the lyrics fit the unconditional, measureless love of Christ for us. "Crying in the Chapel" (made famous by Elvis Presley) is my favorite song on this album. Steph sings it so beautifully. It talks about tears of joy, praying, and contentment in the Lord. "I Sing" is a slow song, expressing Steph's gratitude for what God has done for him. "How Great Thou Art" is another famous hymn. I love Steph Carse's powerful rendition of this old hymn. "The Lord's Prayer" is a song for reflection and meditation. I really enjoyed this CD and highly recommend it. Also check out streaming and download options for the Album on iTunes and Amazon.

DVD Review and Giveaway: A Mile in His Shoes

A Mile in His Shoes is a family-friendly movie (PG) about a young man diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (a form of autism) and how his God-given talent (his amazing throwing ability) helps him and others. It's about overcoming challenges in life. It is based on the book "The Legend of Mickey Tussler" (a true story). It's directed by William Dear, the director of "Angels In the Outfield." It stars Dean Cain who plays Arthur Murphy, a baseball coach and Luke Schroder who plays Mickey, the main character. Excellent performances! My family and I enjoyed this movie. It spoke to my heart deeply because one of my kids has symptoms that are similar to Asperger's Syndrome but the doctors diagnosed him with anxiety disorder, instead. My son is very athletic and great with numbers like Mickey. He is also sensitive to noise and crowds like Mickey. When Coach Murphy sees Mickey (a farmer boy) throw apples at a bucket for his pigs, he knows that he has just fo
