Book Review: Two Are Better by Tim & Debbie Bishop

Two Are Better is a unique memoir about the two-month cycling adventure that Tim and Debbie Bishop experienced shortly after their wedding. They both faithfully waited upon the Lord to find a spouse. It took them over 30 years but it's totally worth the wait. They got married at age 52. Tim retired from a 26-year career in the corporate world eight days after he proposed to Debbie. Two weeks after their wedding, they embarked on their dream cross-country bicycle trip. It's definitely one-of-a-kind extended honeymoon. The first three chapters of the book talk about how they met (online), how their single lives & previous relationships were like, and the whirlwind weeks of wedding and preparation for the trip. Their coast to coast bicycle trip began in Seaside, Oregon and ended in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. They biked through fifteen states and part of Canada in 53 days (with a few transports). Their trip log is included in the back of the book. I got hooke...

Movie Review: Toy Story 4

Opening Date:             Friday, June 21st  Running Time :            100 mins  Rated:                           G Nine years after Toy Story 3 , Toy Story 4 is released today. It's definitely worth the wait! It's difficult to make a good sequel after a trilogy but I think Toy Story 4 succeeded. Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the gang meet a new toy named Forky (voiced by Tony Hale). They went on a road trip with Bonnie and her parents. Adventures abound. Along the way, Woody reunites with Bo Peep who has become independent and free-spirited. They team up with new hilarious toys named Duke Caboom (voiced by Keanu Reeves), Bunny (voiced by Jordan Peele), and Ducky (voiced by Keegan-Michael Key) in order to get Forky out of Second Chance Antiques and back to Bonnie. "No toy gets left behind" is the theme that runs throughout all Toy Story ...

Book Review: Dance with Jesus from Grief to Grace by Susan B. Mead

I feel things very deeply so I don't do  I feel things deeply so I don't do well with grief. Our family lost two people two years in a row (in 2017 and 2018). It was really tough but God brought us through. I found this book encouraging and comforting. I could relate to the message in the book. I nodded. I cried. Susan Mead writes from her own personal experience (she lost her sister, youngest son, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law); therefore, she understands and empathizes with those who grieve. She wants to help people know that God cares and longs to give them peace and joy. She has been through immense grief; yet God's grace sustains her and refreshes her soul. God has allowed her to experience His presence, love, and comfort in so many ways (such as dreams, books, and paintings). She wants us to experience them, too. However, I personally would not recommend the two books mentioned by the author: Heaven Is For Real and 90 Minutes in Heaven...

Book Review: A God for All Seasons by Patti Tingen

Seasons change but God never changes. God is unchanging in His character, will, and promises. God's immutability gives us comfort, courage, confidence, and hope. He is always present with us through all seasons of our lives. In " A God for All Seasons ", the author reflects upon God's faithfulness, love, and blessings for every season and shares from her own personal experiences. Readers will find inspirational devotions for each month of the year. The book begins with winter in December and ends with autumn in November. " There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens ." (Ecclesiastes 3:1) The book covers different times to hope, renew, wait, change, plant, trust, give, celebrate, rest, harvest, believe, and thank. Through it all, God is with us guiding us and caring for us. The book invites us to examine our ...

The Restoration Series: Jonathan's Walk

Prison Fellowship presents  The Restoration Series: Jonathan’s Walk , a 5-part documentary film series following Jonathan as he is released on parole to join his wife and kids after 15 years in prison. I watched part of the first episode (see the video below) and was very impressed. The story is powerful and the production is well done. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the series. The Restoration Series demonstrates how The Academy, a revolutionary in-prison program has helped restore men and women who have been affected by incarceration and combat recidivism (the tendency of a criminal to reoffend). I really like what it says on their website: " Prison Fellowship believes that every person is made in the image of God, and that no one is beyond His reach. That means there is hope for restoration and healing for prisoners, their families, victims, and all those who have been impacted by crime. Through biblically based programs and a positive community, those wh...

CD Review: Steph Carse's My Shining Hour

My Shining Hour is Steph Carse 's new album which consists of some original songs, two hymns, and two cover songs. His voice reminds me of Elvis Presley :). On this album, he personally wrote four songs (" Awesome ", " Healing River ", " My Shining Hour ", and " I Sing ") from what he has experienced in his life and along his journey of faith. Below is the list of songs: 1. Amazing Grace 2. Awesome 3. Healing River 4. My Shining Hour 5. Sometimes It Rains 6. To Make You Feel My Love 7. Crying in the Chapel 8. I Sing 9. How Great Thou Art 10. The Lord's Prayer " Amazing Grace " (written by John Newton) is probably the most beloved and most sung hymn ever! The message is timeless and the melody is haunting. Unfortunately, we could become so familiar with it that it doesn't touch our soul like it used to. I was pleasantly surprised and stirred by Steph Carse 's beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace . He s...
